WhiteBox V1
I created our first whitebox of the play area and tested it in VR.
First I looked up the average house height in the UK (7-8 metres), purely as a starting point, as I knew I'd have to adjust the scales once I saw them wearing the VR headset.
I made a basic representation of a building in Maya and imported it to Unreal. I quickly realised that having too many buildings, in a circle too wide, resulted in the player being to far away from them and therefore potentially unable to shoot their targets.
After adjusting the scales of the buildings a couple of times I found a size that looked 'normal' when wearing the VR headset, and reduced the buildings to a semi-ring of 9 (or 3 on each side and one large building in the middle).
I placed red cubes, at aprox 1.8 metres tall to represent enemies, around the level to ensure they were close enough to shoot.
Once the team has seen the Whitebox with the VR headset on and given the go ahead, or made adjustment, I will take fine measurements of the buildings scales (including maximum height) which I will use for the blueprints of my assets.

We tested the very first whitebox with team mates only.
We realised that everything felt very distant in VR, so brought all of the houses closer together. We repeated the process several times until we felt happy with the distance between the player and the enemies.
